Vintage Swimsuits and Summer Fun

Charlotte, North Carolina 1941
I recently discovered a fantastic tumblr page called National Geographic Found. It features forgotten and unprinted photos from the archives of National Geographic magazine. The photos range over one hundred years and were taken all over the globe. This is a small collection of pictures that I enjoyed featuring people having fun in the sun. It is fascinating to look back through time and see common threads that tie us all together. No matter what part of the world or what time period you look at, it seems we can all relate to the pleasure of jumping in cool water on a hot day, playing with sand on the beach, enjoying picnics, and sitting around campfires.

Rio de Janiero 1962
Amana, Iowa 1938
Roanoke, North Carolina 1955
Le Havre, France 1938
England 1929.
Don't you love their towel capes?
Florida, 1955.
Her swimsuit style is definitely back in.
Pheonix, Arizona 1928.
Arran Island, Scotland 1965.
California, 1930.
What strikes me is how relatable and modern this picture would looks.
Nantucket, Massachusetts 1970
Lake George, New York 1945

  1. Those pictures are great ! Thank you for the link to National Geographic archives, it looks like a wonderful mine but how did you manage to pick those pictures about this specific topic ? Is there any way of searching the base using key words ?
Anyway, your blog is really inspiring, I'm all about thriftshops and sustainable eating and living too and I can't find so many bloggers like you :)

    1. Thanks McLovin! I got lost in looking at the photos and just pulled them out one by one as I went through so I don't think there is a way to search for a specific topic but I learned that you can scroll through thumbnails (in the archive section) instead of the full pictures which isn't as time consuming. Also, I'm glad you like my blog! It's always nice to hear words of encouragement. Thanks so much.
